First Call From Sniper, Well Actually Second
I have been so exhausted, but sleep just wouldn't come. Last night I finally fell asleep at around 2230. I woke up with my home phone ringing. I flew out of bed and answered it. It was Sniper. It took me a minute before it kicked in who I was talking to. I think the first few minutes I was still asleep. He wanted to know why I didn't answer my cell phone. It rang? I heard nothing and it is basically under my ear. I am so glad he called the home phone (my home phone never rings. I can count on one hand how many people have that number). We talked for a few minutes. He is doing good. I have been dying to hear from him, but knew I would be the last to hear from him. His son, Bubba, had knee surgery yesterday (Bubba is doing well, surgery went great. Bubba even called me late last night to check-in). I knew those calls would probably the only calls he makes for awhile. Nope, he was a little bored and started calling everyone. Yeah. One of the big reasons, I wanted to talk to him.......I got a new JOB!!! Sniper has been real worried because we haven't heard much for the last few weeks. I knew that it was mine, but until they actually made the offer he wasn't feeling to great about it. One of the positives is I will be very very busy for the next six months at least. I won't have time to think about anything other than this job. It was real important to Sniper that this happens. Besides the money and the possibilites are endless for our future. He was very happy when I told him. He is worried about me staying busy. He also wanted to know how I am holding up.....well.....I am doing OK. Some of it has sunk in that he is in the Sandbox. The other half of me is still thinking I will see him in a few weeks. The first item on my list from him, is to get an alarm on the house. Not just any alarm, but all the access points (every door and all windows upstairs and downstairs) and garage. Sniper has been worried since the day him and Wingman came into my house without me knowing it (I have been very good about making sure the house is secure). I checked out one company and good God it was so f*ckin expensive. $1325 just to install. The monthly fee is nothing much, but when they told me how much the install would be I thought I was going to pass out. I relayed the info to Sniper and his reply "OK, get a few other estimates." He knew it would be expensive. I won't be in this house, but maybe a 1 1/2 years. This just seems a little much. I will do whatever makes him feel more secure, but damn I can think of other things I would rather spend money on then that. dyzgoneby |

Glad to hear that you heard from sniper and that he is doing well :) That is always encouraging ... especially for you.
Just wanted to let you know, I am an alarm professional with 15 years experience in the industry. When you get other quotes be VERY careful because they usually lock you into a 2 year monitoring agreement, if you plan on selling before that time is up, you will be responsible for the remainder of the contract, and trust me, even though the salesman assures you VERBALLY that it will not be a problem, it WILL be a problem. Its a game they play to get the sale.
Sometimes paying more for the mom and pop alarm system is better than going for the deals made by the "big players" such as ADT, Brinks, Protection One etc..mom and pops charge more up front but are easy going when it comes to contract terms. Play smart and do your homework, if I can be of any assistance to you on an advisory level (I know you dont know me from Adam, but I have a vested interest in insuring that the future wife of a true american hero doesnt get screwed) you can contact me via email at foamysranting at yahoo dot com
Sounds like you were tired my dear. Glad to know that things are going great. Congrats on the job now maybe Mr. Sniper won't be so worried about you. You are going to have enough on your plate for a while now. It will for sure make the time move by fast. I sure hope you have time to blog us and keep us up to date.
hey dyz,
congrats on the new job!!! and check out the smaller less-commercial alarm companies that might be a little more lenient on the length of contract. these smaller companies also will encourage you to talk-up the system to the new owners and try and get them to sign up since the system is conveniently 'already in place' etc.
thanks for sharing your experiences of your life and love with Sniper, and especially his deployment. keep yourself good and busy and 14 months will be over in no time!
you are Sniper are very lucky :}
semper fi!
I remember my first call from my boyfriend. It was great, but sad at the same time, because it finally sunk it to me, that he WAS there.
And man, doesn't that operator's voice: "this call will end in two minutes" irk?
Take care!
I TOTALLY know that foggy feeling...and then they say, "Did I wake you?"
Yes, but I am happy you did, or at least I will be as soon as I figure out where I am and why my man is on the phone with me instead of in my bed. Oh, yeah, that's right.
I had the same sticker shock with the alarm issue...tough call, I know.
