I am married to a wonderful Marine and a mother of 5 darling children. Sniper has been home from his second tour in the Shitbox since July 2006. This will be my rants, raves and rumblings with my life with him as a Marine Wife, him dealing with life post Iraq and the Marine Corps next adventure for us. At times I may whine, I may cry and there maybe times I just don't make any sense and you think WTF. These are my feelings and my feelings alone. If you don't like what I have to say, click the "X" in the right corner and move on. Thank a vet for having that choice. If not, sit back and enjoy the peak into my crazy world.

Update on my Dad & Sniper

Thank you for all the prayers!! They worked.

    My dad:
He had surgery at 0200 this morning and is already back at home recovering as I type this. YEAH!!!! He apparently has been in pain since Saturday, and being the typical male (Sniper, I know I am just as stubborn, but I will work on it when you do), he didn't go to the doctor's and kept taking Motrin to kill the pain. It didn't work (duh) and ultimately ended up at the hospital. He is very lucky his appendix didn't burst.

They won't be able to go to Montana this weekend, but will go this summer for my grandmother's 75th Birthday.

    Sniper:
I was able to talk to him this afternoon. (He didn't remember if he told me he was hurt. Must be some good shit they had on for that one to happen.) He should know in the next 24 hours if they will be sending him to Germany (my cousin is already on standby). His shoulder is screwed up pretty bad. When he tells me it hurts, I know it HURTS.

There is even some scuttle that he may be shipped home because of his injury. My take is difficult to explain on this.

Physically he needs to let his shoulder recover and heal properly. Pretty simple and straight forward for your average civilian, me, but he is a MARINE and that comes first. Taking care of his own.

Him coming home before the rest of his Marines is going to be a major issue. He made a promise to bring them all home and he intends to do this. If he is hurt, he can't. So to him, he will be just fine, even though his body is telling him differently. I do understand this. Trust me, if this happens and they are all still there, he is going to be a major bear to be around.

So for me, as much as it hurts to not have him close and spoil him rotten, I would rather him come home with all of his unit. Even if that isn't until next year. I wonder what the chances are they could all come home soon? Yep, just what I thought, pretty much nadda.

I will keep you all updated as I hear.

Glad everything worked out for your dad...and I'll keep my fingers crossed that Sniper doesn't have to come home early...my dad's a Marine, so I know where Sniper's coming from...and I understand your mixed emotions about that too.... :) Hang tough!!!

I watched my hubby's first sgt scrunch up his face in pain while wearing a full ruck after breaking his collarbone when he was cut off and laid his bike down. He was the leader of those soldiers right next to my spouse and there was no way in hell he was going to show them to behave less than full strength. I know what Sniper is thinking and feeling, I just happen to not agree. If he needs to recover then, come home recover & go back. The short time for recovery will be less than shortening your time in the Corps due to injury.

The pushups crack me up! Oh and you work your tummy as well if you are doing the pushups correctly. :-)

Blogger Uncle Jim said ... (6:45 AM) :

OH MAN I LOVE THE PUSH UPS!!!!!!!
Glad to hear your dad is better. As for sniper, he needs to keep his head up right now. He got hurt in the line of duty! If he needs to come home to heal up I'ts no big deal. Now if he was "pussing" out over some little chicken shit thing that would be diffrent. He is more of a risk to himself and his Marines if he is trying to lead them while he is not 100%. He could end up getting them all into deep shit if he did stay. You need to let him know this. His injury is duty related so if he has to go, he has to go. It would almost be breaking his promise if he stayed. Because if he did, and something happened because of it...yeah you know where I'm going here.

Uncle Jim is a smart man. Tell Sniper suck up and do as told. Shit. Something like that could be a bigger deal if he does not handle it appropriately now. Glad to hear that your dad is doing alright. Keep in touch. REmember you have to study study

    Blogger LiberalismIsAMentalDisorder said ... (10:03 AM) :

Thanks for the update! Glad Sniper is ok, kind of a 6 of 1 half dozen of the other with his injury and leaving the s**tbox without his soldiers. I feel his pain.

    Have a great week!

Glad your dad and Sniper are doing well.
I know those guys like to finish what they started, but when something like this happens, you have to think, it happened for a reason. Maybe he is meant to be out of Iraq for now? What will be will be.

They're all like that, you know? Once they're with their unit, they want to ship out with them and see the mission through to the end. The injured soldiers always want to know how their brothers are, and when they can get back to them. It's abso-frikkin amazing. UJ's right. If something happens because of his injury, he'll never forgive himself.

I know you want to nurse him back to health, but you're right- he'll be a real bear to be around. Let's hope a trip to Germany will cure all that ails him and he's back with the boys before long!

Great news about your Dad, too. I'm sorry they won't be making the trip this weekend, but thank goodness he went to the doc early enough to catch it before it really became a problem! Bursting appendixes are NO FUN.

kbug....thank you, I'm hanging in there. I miss hearing the stories about your dad.

HH6...that's pretty much how Sniper is. His guys will never know it.

I knew I worked my chi chi's as well, but never thought it would help my tummy. I can't pack on the weight while Sniper is gone. I would love to actually be tone.

Melanie....I am having a blast (not) doing the push-ups.

UJ....I could never see Sniper "pussing out" on anything. It just isn't in his nature. Last tour he was hurt and it took them 3 weeks to get him to come home. He's a little stuborn. I really see him staying the whole duration. Thanks for keeping me in shape.

Christy....hell no I won't tell him to "suck it up." I enjoy my sanity and my ass. It's finally growing back. If he was home, now that would be a whole different ball game.

liberalism...thank you.I sure have missed you around these parts. Wondered if you were still around, guess I know you are.

military mom....Either way, I am hoping, crossing my fingers, saying my prayers, this is the last and final purple heart.

afsister....my dad is still pushing to leave on Friday and my mom won't have any part of it. She is a real party popper. At least she can somewhat keep him in his place for a few days.

    1,2,3,4 I know I should be studying
    5,6,7,8 however I am a work
9,10,11,12 you should see the looks I am getting
    13,14.....

Dyz, Sniper's a Marine. No matter what we do or think, he is in complete control of his motivation. I am glad that he is the way he is because that makes all of us safer here at home. And, his duty is in his head and his heart - he'll adjust once he knows your _counsel_ is sound. If you come at him logically with a strict guideline that he can follow, and it is without "softness" but full of confidence, I suspect he'll let up on himself a just enough to heal faster.

And for a Marine, letting up just enough is way to much frickin' pain for me, in my estimation! ;)

Be strong in your counsel, stay logical and help him to see that healing gets him back in charge faster. Athletes know their machines but never their limits. Marines know BOTH. :)

I am very glad your Dad is OK! I missed the prayer request by a few days, but I'll say two on Sunday just to make sure he gets better faster, too.

And, I'm gonna say one for Sniper, too. There's always room for one more prayer, ya know!?

Thank you again for your kind words regarding my Mom. The prayers are always welcome because they work for my Dad, too. As long as Mom was comfortable, Dad was happy and less stressed. Now Mom is very comfortable and waiting for us all to join her. It'll be good to see her again when my time comes ...

    Take care and God Bless!
